Karlo Antunes (he/him) is a Visual Artist and Editor specializing in Visual Storytelling, Design and Development, and Print. Karlo received a dual major Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Florida in 2017.
His love for cartoons and visual art led him to further his education in comics, illustration, and animation at the Sequential Artists Workshop (SAW) and at the School of Visual Arts. Currently, he is expanding his skillset through self-study in programming, development, and UI/UX design.
Professionally, Karlo has worked with the Sequential Artists Workshop for 8 years in multiple roles. He is currently aiding the school as their Communications Director and Head Editor. He also gained editorial experience as freelance Head Editor for Nickelodeon’s The Loud House and The Casagrandes comics for Papercutz: a Children’s Graphic Novels publishing house.
Karlo has knowledge and experience in script editing, art/layout editing, coloring, book compositing, and clean-up work for titles such as:
- Tenements, Towers & Trash: An Unconventional Illustrated History of New York City (A New York Times Notable Book of 2017) by Julia Wertz (clean-up work)
- Papercutz/NBM Graphic Novels titles such as Nickelodeon’s The Loud House, Nickelodeon’s The Casagrandes, Monica Adventures, The Smurfs, Geronimo Stilton, Vincent, Dinosaur Explorers, and more (script editing, art/layout design editing and coloring, book compositing, meta-data, and clean-up work)
- The Sequential Artists Workshops’ student anthologies including On What Matters: SAW 2020-2021 Certificate Program Anthology; Air On/Off: Science Fiction Comics Anthology; Socially Distant: SAW Pandemic Comics Anthology; and more.
- Bird Brained Zine Anthology (all issues)
Karlo is the founder, editor, and publisher of an off-beat, literary-art anthology titled Bird Brained Zine Anthology, which was created to urge unconventional and underdog creators to keep creating sustainably. He is also the founder of a small side project called GhostCactus Studio, which he hopes will manifest into a physical space for artists to create, print, and connect.
In his free time, Karlo enjoys vanilla lattes, visiting museums, playing video games, being active, woodworking and up-cycling used skateboard decks, learning more about design and print, and watching movies with his fiancé, Lily.
Karlo is available for freelance comic editing, storyboarding, and animation/game design and development.
